Employment Scheme joins forces with Crystal Palace FC to help South London resident get work

Darren in the Crystal Palace FC kitchenPure Innovations, a pioneering scheme that helps people with learning disabilities and mental health needs to gain employment, has supported a South London service user to secure his first permanent job at the prestigious Crystal Palace Football Club (CPFC).

Darren Rose, resident at The Green, a specialist service in Sutton run by CMG, started his new job as a member of the Kitchen Staff at Crystal Palace this month, after gaining valuable experience in an earlier placement at a local card factory.

Darren was supported in achieving both jobs with the help of Pure Innovations, whose high-quality services focus on promoting independence, increasing choice and maximising potential for all service users. Pure Innovations, a not-for-profit company with over 20 years’ experience, works in partnership with CMG, a leading independent provider of support to over 600 people with learning disabilities and associated complex needs across England and Wales.

After his first few shifts, Darren is already really enjoying his job, the opportunity to work hard in a team and to earn some money. He gained useful experience from taking charge of stock control during his last placement at the card factory, which has been very helpful in adjusting to his new Kitchen Assistant role at CPFC. In his new job, Darren is responsible for delivering food to guests in the Executive Boxes, showing visitors around the stadium and working with colleagues to do the washing up.

Staff at CPFC have been impressed by how hard Darren works and he has settled in very well. The club are delighted to have established a relationship with Pure Innovations, recognising the scheme’s mutual benefits for both service users and Crystal Palace alike. CPFC is now looking to extend its partnership with Pure Innovations over the next year so that more residents can get involved.

Nino Raisys, Catering Manager at Crystal Palace F.C. has been pleased to have had the opportunity to add to Darren to his team on a matchday:

"Darren is just one example of the success story of Pure Innovations and here at Crystal Palace FC we are delighted to have welcomed him on board within our busy matchday working environment. Darren plays a pivotal role in our kitchen operation on a matchday serving our hospitality areas within the stadium. He shows a willingness to learn and is always happy to carry out additional duties to ensure that the catering division serves up an efficient and professional service to the public."

Talking about his role at CPFC, Darren commented:

“I’m very proud of my new job at Crystal Palace. I love football and play a lot on the CMG team, so I jumped at the chance of working at the club. It is really satisfying to work hard and make friends with my new colleagues, who are all very friendly.

“It’s also great to earn some money and feel more independent. I am now saving up to buy my two children some surprise presents!”
